I am level 2 ski instructor working in the ski school at Jackson Hole Mountain resort. I offer both one-on-one coaching and private group experiences to help you make the most of your Jackson Hole ski vacation. My focus is on helping Jackson Hole skiers improve their skiing and to experience a unique adventure at our magnificent mountain. I have been skiing for 55 years, starting at a tiny hill in Calumet County Wisconsin. My uncle founded the ski hill in the late 1950s and blazed new ski runs through the rocky terrain using explosives left over from the Korean War. My first visit to Jackson Hole was in 1978. My jaw dropped when the mountain appeared as I first drove up. There in full view I could see the entire 4000+ feet of vertical drop. If this is your first time to Jackson I think you will feel as awestruck as I did and still do! I have lived in Jackson Hole since 2013 and when I am not ski instructing you might find me country dancing at the Silver Dollar Bar.
Philosophy
As a ski instructor I believe in being safe, having fun and making you a better skier. During a lesson I generally address a specific ski fundamental where I think my client needs help. Often times I will spend the whole day on just one of the five skiing fundamentals below:
- Direct pressure to the outside ski
- Control edge angles with inclination and angulation
- Managing your fore and aft movements
- Control the skis’ Rotation with leg rotation
- Managing your up and down movements
I have found by focusing a single fundamental and addressing a specific weakness, it often improves my clients skiing across the board. In my lessons I prefer talk a lot on the lift, talk a little on the mountain and ski a lot. I believe much can be achieved through visualization and following an experienced professional down the mountain. Let’s go out and have fun on the best mountain in America.
